Arriving in Canada as an International Student:  Tips for Interacting with CBSA Officers

  1. Language:
If you do not have the confidence to speak English or French well, ask for an interpreter upfront.
  2. Provide Documents:
Have relevant documents ready to support your answers.
  3. Consistency:
Make sure you know the school and program you are attending and that your answers match your acceptance letter and previous immigration history.
  4. Be Direct:
Only answer the questions asked, and avoid extra details.
If you do not understand the question, tell the officers directly. They will rephrase the question.
If you do not know the answer or do not remember, answer honestly. Do not guess or make up some answers.
  5. No Arguments:
Stay calm, do not argue, and be cooperative.
