The Canadian government is considering implementing a cap on international student enrollment as a potential solution to ease the strain on the housing market. According to the government, Canada has recently seen a surge in the number of international students, reaching over 800,000. Fraser’s approach involves urging institutions that admit substantial numbers of students to take responsibility for helping to address housing needs in a competitive rental market. He also criticized certain institutions for enrolling more students than housing can accommodate, exacerbating the housing crisis.
