Canada’s International Student Program contributes significantly to the country’s global appeal. Despite a dip in 2020 due to COVID-19, international student numbers rebounded in 2021, with 445,776 study permit holders entering Canada. These students bring diverse perspectives and skills to Canada, enriching the academic environment for domestic students and often becoming long-term residents. In 2021, 22,682 international students transitioned to permanent residency. Additionally, temporary COVID-19 measures for the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) program were extended until August 31, 2023, allowing students to study abroad and remain PGWP-eligible.
