Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), also known as UK University Joint Admissions, is an online application system that enables students to apply for admission to UK universities and colleges. UCAS allows students interested in studying abroad in the UK to search and select universities and programs online. Students should make a selection according to their grades and interests, also the entry and English requirements of their preferred programs. Students may choose up to 5 courses out of priority order in Phase 1. If none of the 5 selections are accepted, an additional ‘Extra’ choice can be made in the second stage. If students do not receive an offer or are unsatisfied with the current offer, they can apply for the remaining places through the ‘Clearing’ process in the final stage.

Many students who plan to enter the first year of UK universities in September of 2023 have already started preparing applications and uploading their documents to UCAS this year. Although most programs are on January 2023, the application deadline for popular medical-related programs (including medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine) at Oxford University and Cambridge University will be on 15 October 2022.

Among all the application documents, the document that requires the most preparation time should be the personal statement. Although it is a self-introduction with a word limit of 4000 English characters (about 600-630 words), it has a certain weight in an admission application. It will sometimes determine whether an application is successful. A good self-introduction is mainly about expressing your thoughts clearly and coherently in the text, highlighting your strengths and abilities, and showing your passion for the passion you are applying for and your vision for the future.
