Significant Update in Canada’s Post-Graduation Work Permit Policy

Canada’s Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) policy, a key initiative to support international graduates, has recently undergone significant changes, demanding careful consideration from those affected. Initially responding to pandemic challenges, the Canadian government introduced a temporary extension on January 8, 2021, granting an additional 18 months to PGWP holders. This policy, revised thrice by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within the past two years, served as a crucial lifeline during uncertain times.

However, a noteworthy shift occurred on December 7, 2023, when the Canadian government decided not to extend this temporary policy beyond December 31, 2023. This decision poses a substantial challenge for international students, particularly those whose permits expired or were set to end after the specified date.

This change emphasizes the importance of strategic planning for international students regarding their next steps. In these uncertain times, seeking guidance becomes crucial. Students are encouraged to connect with EGI for comprehensive advice and exploration of alternative options.
