Understanding TEER: Examples of NON-Eligible Occupations by Levels

Notably, TEER 4 and 5 occupations are ineligible under the Canada Experience Class (CEC) program. International students aspiring to immigrate to Canada should avoid jobs falling within these TEER levels.

TEER 4 – Occupations that usually require a high school diploma or several weeks of on-the-job training

  • Home childcare providers
  • Retail salespersons and visual merchandisers
  • Library assistants and clerks
  • Accounting and related clerks
  • Banking, insurance and other financial clerks

TEER 5    Occupations that usually need short-term work demonstration and no formal education

  • Landscaping and grounds maintenance labourers
  • Delivery service drivers and door-to-door distributors
  • Cashiers
  • Janitors, caretakers and heavy-duty cleaners

The TEER system, integrated with the NOC 2021, plays a pivotal role in Canada’s skilled worker immigration programs. Therefore, it is essential for international students aiming to seek PR in Canada to understand the TEER category system and identify the appropriate code for their occupation.

If uncertainty persists regarding whether your work experience aligns with the CEC program criteria, we invite you to share your resume with EGI through email for a free initial consultation.
