SCHOOL ADMISSION

Every educational school has a different application procedure and enrollment requirements. A solid and well-organized plan is the key to enrolling in your ideal institution.

Canadian Elementary and High School Application

For the enrolment in September:
the application period is from December 1 to May 1.

For the enrolment in February:
the application period is from August 1 to November 1.

No matter your enrolment time, it will not affect the course schedule.

  • Minimum Academic Average for the past 2 years with marks of 70% or equivalent & no failures per academic year
  • Recommendation letter
  • A Canadian custodian for the students under the age of 18

Canadian Undergraduate Application for University / College

For Fall Semester (September):
the application period is from September to December, with supplementary materials submitted between January and May. It may be varied among different universities or colleges.

For Spring Semester (February):
the application period is from June to November, with supplementary materials submitted by December. It may be varied among different universities or colleges. In general, there are fewer courses or programs open in Spring Semester. Therefore, it is not the best time to enroll.

Application Pathways

There are no standardized university entrance exams in Canada. Students can apply to the university directly after graduating from high school.

A National College Entrance Examination report may be required for Chinese students.

General admission requirements:

  • Language proficiency with an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher or equivalent
  • An overall average of at least 85% in high or above
  • Some backgrounds of extracurricular activities, practical experience, and interests are helpful for successful admission.

It is a choice for the students who want to avoid taking an English language test or the overall language test score is unsatisfactory. A conditional offer will be issued while the standard application is submitted and approved, which offers some English courses to allow the successful completion of these courses to meet a school’s minimum English language requirement and be admitted to the desired undergraduate program.

General admission requirements:

  • An overall average of at least 75% in high school or above
  • Some backgrounds of extracurricular activities, practical experience, and interests are helpful for successful admission.

With some language support, the focus of academic pathway programs is on academic credit. The pathway allows international students to study the equivalent of first-year academic classes on an actual university or college campus. Instructors are trained to work with international students and will help them engage effectively with the course material. After the first year, students will have completed the equivalent of a first-year academic course load. They will be ready to transition into the second year of the desired program at the host college or university.

General admission requirements:

  • An overall average of at least 75% in high school or above

College education prepares the student for an applied career and offers a wide range of programs and partnerships with various companies to ensure a high employment rate for graduates. Therefore, earning an internationally recognized bachelor’s degree in a college is the choice for many students.

Moreover, the credits from the corresponding majors can usually be transferred to the university for further study.

To eliminate the stress of admission to a top university, some students may choose to study a one-year pre-university program. The benefit is allowing international student to apply to universities as local Canadian students, improve their language proficiency, and have a chance to adapt to Canadian culture before starting college or university.

Canadian Graduate School Application

The decision to pursue graduate school depends on personal preference and the requirements of your desired career. Graduate programs offer advanced degrees, such as Master’s or Doctoral degrees, and provide specialized academic training.

When considering studying in Canada, it is advisable to start preparing your applications at least one year in advance of your desired institution intake session. For the September intake, it is recommended to begin the application process in April, or by June at the latest. However, for popular institutions or programs with high demand, it is advisable to start preparing your application even earlier to enhance your chances of success.

  •  Undergraduate Official transcripts:
    Official transcripts from undergraduate studies demonstrating excellent academic performance: Most universities require a minimum GPA of 3.0 (equivalent to 75%+), while top-tier institutions may expect a GPA of at least 3.5 (equivalent to 87%+).
  •  Language proficiency:
    Standardized language tests such as the IELTS with a score of 7 or higher; or the TOEFL with a score of 100 or higher. Equivalent language proficiency certifications may also be accepted.
  • Standardized tests:
    Depending on the school or program, you may be required to submit GRE or GMAT scores. Some programs may have specific score expectations or exemptions, so it is important to check the requirements of the programs chosen.
  • Personal statement:
    A well-crafted personal statement is a vital component of your application.
  • Curriculum Vitae:
    Detailed CV to show the admission committee that your skills and qualifications make you a good fit for their program.Reference letters:
    Many graduate programs, particularly research-based ones, require at least three  reference letters from previous professors and employers.
